While lots of women colour they hair using dye, others don't necessarily want to make hair colour something permanent. The easiest way to play is to clip (or I suppose, glue) in a few coloured hair extensions to try things out. This year was a banner year for coloured hair extensions — certainly for Lady Gaga at least. I've chosen two of my favourite accented hair styles from her this year and have compared her to Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, Avril Lavigne and Marina Diamandis. Young, beautiful British and American entertainers like Carey Mulligan, Michelle Williams, Ashlee Simpson-Wentz, Katie Waissel, Michelle Williams and of course Emma Watson have rid themselves from the burden of extended hairstyling and have freed up more time to pursue other undertakings. Besides news about the rate of plastic surgeries being on the decline for once in Hollywood, the biggest headlines of 2010 this year in beauty, mainly centred around the UK Advertising Standards Association following through on their hard and fast rules of last year — remember Cheryl Cole's hair extensions for the L'Oreal Elvive commercial that had everyone up in arms!

Besides news about the rate of plastic surgeries being on the decline for once in Hollywood, the biggest headlines of 2010 this year in beauty, mainly centred around the UK Advertising Standards Association following through on their hard and fast rules of last year — remember Cheryl Cole's hair extensions for the L'Oreal Elvive commercial that had everyone up in arms! Apparently, roughly 25 percent of beauty adverts are fake and brands use disclaimers to cover themselves against those why cry out against them.

This is quite the ongoing problem for the beauty industry in the UK, as Beyonce has caught heat for her fragrance ad being too racy, a Clean & Clear Commercial was banned for misleading 'before and after' photos, and a a Nivea advert was chastised for claiming that women "felt more attractive now than they did 10 years ago" after using this product, which turned out to be an embellishment.

I can't wait to see what next year has in store for us. I happen to think that the ASA is taking things a little too far in the beauty world, but I do appreciate them trying to keep advertising as truthful as possible. What are your thoughts on beauty adverts becoming so strict?

However, check out these mid-length bob haircuts from some of today's hottest stars. Back in early 2010, Jessica Alba went for the chop whilst Keira Knightley cut her hair for the Chanel 2011 Spring fashion show. In July, Scarlett Johansson opted for a chin-length bob as did Heidi Klum a few weeks ago. And Audrey Tatou has actually been able to grow her hair out long enough to be styled in this wavy bob.
