Spring isn't quite here yet, but that doesn't stop cosmetics and fashion companies from staying ahead of the game and launching their collections early in the year. At least it gives us a break from the muted shades of Autumn and the bold reds and sparkles from the Winter holidays, as some of the goodies for Spring and Summer 2012 are a breath of fresh air. Filled with floral embellishments, hearts, stripes that contain bright corals, pinks and purples, check out four amazing new face palettes for next season here!
Whilst I realise that a garden theme isn't an original newsworthy story for Spring, the influence on the products that this timeless idea generates are something special this season. Take for example, the mustard-brown nail varnish from Nails Inc called Hampstead Gardens inspired by the heath in North London. Or, how about In the Garden of Good and Eva, a fragrance from Benefit Cosmetics? I love each of these goodies, along with the cool new scented mauve and lime polishes from Dior's Garden Party Spring Collection! Check out five of my favourite garden-themed beauty products for Spring and let me know which ones you like most.
During the Christmas season, beauty companies love gathering their best-selling goodies and packaging them together as gift sets at bargain prices. I love a set, and think many women also enjoy unwrapping multiple items that encourage them to pamper themselves! I've gathered six amazing bath, body and beauty gift sets here for you to shop. Take a peek and let me know which one you like most for that special gift set loving gal in your life.
Makeup palettes always make a wonderful gift for any special lady in your life, because they are so versatile and they can also be quite pricey. Offer a lip palette to your coworker, a book of shadows to your sister, a face palette to your bestie, and a luxury brand to your mum. I've got my eye on a few of these, the hardest part is going to be whom to give what to! Browse through these palettes to find the perfect prezzie!
Strong, clean, and full brows are back in style from what we've learnt watching the umpteen Fall/Winter shows. These five products are easy to use for anyone that's a novice at brow maintenance, and they are also the perfect fix for anyone who has overtweezed or has naturally light or thin brows. Take a look through these five brow pens, and let me know which one you're most interested in checking out and if you'd be keen on using a pen over a powder or wax.
Do you ever wish you had more makeup that would flatter you all year round? These universal cream blushers suit most skin tones, whatever the weather. The neutral colours are easy to wear day or night and the smooth cream formula is easy to apply. I personally switch between all five of these shades for different occasions. For travel, I take along Terracotta from Becca, or Peony from Stila because they are so compact. For photographs, I tend to use Rude from Illamasqua because it's the brightest and creamiest, and everyday I love either Something Special from MAC or Canyon from Laura Mercier. Take a peek at these cream blushers and let me know which you fancy most.
As I keep discovering new liquid illuminators, I only get more and more addicted to them. These products aren't shimmery or chintzy, rather they create an illusion of healthy, dewy skin without the distraction of sparkles. The pink or white creams are iridescent, so they attract natural light and give you that special and inexplicable je ne se qua. They can be applied all over the face or just under the brow bone, down the centre of the nose, to the temples, chin and in the cupid's bow to draw attention to your lips. Below are five of my favourite products. Be sure and let me know what you think of them too, and leave a comment if you know of any other luminizers you think the rest of us would be interested in!
- MAC Strobe Cream (£20.50) is a cult favourite among celebrity makeup artists and fashion show makeup artists. A little dollop of this pearly white cream goes a long way to create a gorgeous effect that makes you look like you're glowing from the inside out.
- Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Pearl (£32.70) is my latest discovery. It's a thick, white cream that comes in a pump. All you do is apply it to your fingertips and then gently pat it into your skin over your makeup or blend it in with your foundation. Ever since I started wearing it, people have been telling me that I look fabulous and radiant, I swear! If they only knew that it was just my secret beauty weapon.
- No 7 Skin Illuminator (£10.50) is available in two shades (peach for darker skin and pink for pale skin) and it comes with a handy built in applicator brush that helps prevent streaking. This product is the most affordable of the bunch and it creates a wonderful smooth and glowy effect on your skin.

This month social networking consultancy Stylophane introduced a new beauty index listing the top rated brands on Facebook, and the results are quite revealing. Apparently MAC boasts a whopping 575,000 followers! Meanwhile, Aveda tops the haircare list with 59,000 followers. Other high rankers include Burt's Bees, Benefit and Clinique, each with over 60,000 fans.
Social networking is an interesting phenomenon. Some brands have been slow to take it up, while others like Bobbi Brown, Space NK and Stila have been all over it! Bobbi Brown has 24,000 Facebook fans and features regular posts from Bobbi herself along with photos of events she's attending. Consumers on Space NK can ask questions about any of the company's brands and have an expert answer them the same day.
There's no doubt that it's a great way to keep updated about your favorite brands. For the beauty companies, it also offers a way to talk directly with their consumer and find out more about what they want. I can see that for some it may seem too much like a fad though. What do you think – Are you a fan of beauty social networking?
I just can't get festive enough during the Summer season! Between the beautiful weather we've been having in the UK, Wimbledon and the excitement of getting to the beach one of these weekends, July is one of my favourite times of the year for beauty products. Since this month is all about being outdoors, here are a few of my must-have beauty essential picks for festivals! Don't forget to vote on your festival beauty product you can't live without here!
Last night in New York City, Gossip Girl actress Blake Lively arrived at the Ed Sullivan Theater to make an appearance on The David Letterman Show. Looking stunning and leggy in a bright pink mini-dress, Blake's hair also glittered under the city lights with perfect highlights and voluminous layers.
However, what I loved most about her look was her makeup. Blake always look age appropriate with just the right amount of eye and lip colour to enhance her natural beauty.
