Yesterday in France, Diane Kruger showed how to perfect the ultimate updo at the opening ceremony of Cannes Film Festival. The German actress made sure all eyes were on her as she swished up the red carpet in an aqua drape-shouldered Giambattista Valli creation and sophisticated bun. Diane's hairdresser, Perrine Rougemont has given us insider tips on how the style was created using classic British John Frieda products, saying:
"To complement Diane’s beautiful Hollywood soft blue iconic dress – we wanted to go for a sophisticated, classic look with a modern feel – making sure the look was just a little undone, not too perfect to add interest."

- Step 1: John Frieda Luxurious Volume Thickening Blow Dry Lotion (£5.79) was applied to the roots to add texture before blow drying the hair in the direction we wanted it to fall into.
- Step 2: Once dry I wanted to add in a little extra volume so used some soft back combing around the root area this also ensured the final look didn’t look too perfect.
- Step 3: Hair was swept up into a ponytail. Again, adding in some gentle backcombing to the ponytail. The ponytail was then looped upwards securing into a small but modern bun at the base of the ponytail leaving the mid lengths and ends out so we could loop them back down over the bun loosely securing with fine pins.
- Step 4: For the finishing touches a little John Frieda Sheer Blonde Gleam Crème Instant Silkener (£5.29) was put through the ends before they were wrapped around the hair band and secured to finish the look.
The whole look was held in place with a fine misting of John Frieda Sheer Blonde Crystal Hold Shape & Shimmer Hairspray (£5.40).
