Josh Hartnett got in on the pre-Oscars parties when he dropped by the Vanity Fair and Fiat party benefiting the United Nations International Labour Organization in LA last night. The star-studded event, which was hosted by Ron Howard and composer Hans Zimmer, also included Lake Bell, Alyssa Milano, and Adrien Brody as guests. Josh had a busy evening, as he also visited the Hollywood Domino and Bovet 1822 event in West Hollywood. Alyssa — who wore Gucci to last night's event — will likely have a lot more Academy Awards-related events to attend this weekend, since her husband, David Bugliari, reps Bradley Cooper, who is nominated for best actor. Bradley has a lot of events on his plate this week, including Wednesday night's Vanity Fair dinner for Silver Linings Playbook, which he attended alongside costar Jennifer Lawrence and director David O. Russell. Don't forget to join us for our LIVE Oscars viewing party and red carpet coverage on Sunday, Feb. 24 at 5:30 p.m. EST/2:30 p.m. PST.
Anne Hathaway shared laughs and drinks with her Les Misérables costars at a special pre-Oscars bash in LA last night. She donned a Theyskens' Theory minidress as she celebrated with a Dior-wearing Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Redmayne, and Isla Fisher, who attended the shindig with her husband, Sacha Baron Cohen. The Les Misérables fete supported the Los Angeles Fund For Public Education, and drew other celebrities like Adrien Brody and Judy Greer. The celebration wasn't to be confused with the separate Vanity Fair party for Silver Linings Playbook, which also benefited education in LA and was held on the same night.
The pre-Oscars parties are just getting started, and the casts of both films will have plenty of chances to celebrate before Oscar night on Sunday, Feb. 24. Don't forget to fill out our Oscar ballot for a chance to win $1,000 and an iPad.
Diane Kruger graced the red carpet at the closing ceremonies of the Cannes Film Festival today. She was among the panel of jurors that presented director Michael Haneke's Amour with this year's Palme d’Or, the competition's top prize. Diane kept with her black-and-white theme and, for her final red-carpet appearance, she chose a formal Christian Dior ball gown. She complemented the look with minimal jewelry and showed no signs of the $45,000 engagement-gift necklace Joshua Jackson reportedly purchased for her during their stay in France.
Alec Baldwin and his fiancée, Hilaria Thomas, joined Diane, Adrien Brody, Ewan McGregor, and Jean Dujardin at a screening of Thérèse Desqueyroux, the festival's final event. It was an exciting week of fashion, entertainment, A-list parties, and hot couples, but if you missed any of the star-studded moments, be sure to check out all the photos from the Cannes Film Festival!
Last night was a busy one for many celebrities at Cannes. Milla Jovovich was decked out to make the rounds, starting at the Chopard and L'Oréal bash at the Hotel Martinez. She mingled at L'Oréal with fellow brand ambassadors Luisana Lopilato and model Natasha Poly. We caught a moment with Milla at the soiree, and she spoke about what her favorite part of the festival has been. Milla said, "The last two years I brought my daughter, so it's all about getting my work done and getting back to bed to sleep with my little girl. She was all day at the beach — loves it, loves it. She met a little friend here. They're best friends now — in the whole world — after one day together." Milla and her husband Paul W. S. Anderson are the proud parents of 4-year-old Ever.
The next stop on the party agenda was de Grisogono's Glam Extravaganza at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in nearby Antibes. There, Milla caught up with celeb pals like Heidi Klum, Alec Baldwin and his fiancée Hilaria Thomas, Adrien Brody, and the Hilton sisters. Both Nicky and Paris are making the rounds this week. Nicky, though, has her new boyfriend in town, too — we spotted her out on a dinner date with new guy James Rothschild, an English banking heir. In Detachment, Adrien Brody stars as Henry Barthes, a substitute teacher who moves around a lot, never staying in a place long enough to develop any true connection or emotional attachment to the student body, the administration, or anyone, for that matter. At his newest school, Henry finds that the unmotivated students have completely burnt out the faculty. When Henry unexpectedly becomes a beacon of light to a few of the kids, he begins to come to grips with the world around him.
Even from the short trailer, you can tell that Brody is going to give one powerful performance. He's not the only one to look forward to; the film has a recognizable supporting cast with the likes of Marcia Gay Harden, Bryan Cranston, and Christina Hendricks. Detachment looks like an intense and poignant story, so to check out the trailer, just keep reading.
Sarah Jessica Parker seemed to take the snow theme to heart last night when she attended UNICEF's Snowflake ball in a pouffy Louis Vuitton number. She attended the gala at Cipriani 42nd Street with other stars like Zoe Kravitz, Uma Thurman, Adrien Brody, and Mark Ruffalo. Zoe made the rounds inside while decked out in a Chanel ensemble that had feathery details just like SJP's.
Sarah Jessica and her family are home in the Big Apple again after spending Thanksgiving with Matthew's sister in New Jersey. SJP and Matthew attended a mass at Morristown's St. Peter's Episcopal Church, where his sister is a pastor. Their son, James Wilkie, had a lesson on the organ, then over 20 members of their extended family sat down to enjoy a 27-pound turkey!
Clive Owen teamed up with hot couple Joshua Jackson and Diane Kruger last night for Jaeger-Lecoultre's 80th anniversary bash at Les Beaux-Arts de Paris. Hot actor Clive is a longtime fan of the watch and jewelry brand and has stepped out for many of its events over the last few years. Diane and Josh, who say they aim to spend half the year living in France, have been making the European party rounds, too. Josh was on Diane's arm for a fundraiser at the Louvre, while Diane Kruger attended the amFar gala solo last week in a hot red YSL gown to mingle with other stars like Fergie and Marc Jacobs. Clive has been laying low since wrapping Hemingway and Gellhorn with Nicole Kidman, but he's back and in top action hero form in the new The Killer Elite trailer alongside Jason Statham.
Rachel McAdams changed into a semi-sheer Marchesa gown for the premiere of her new Woody Allen movie during the Cannes Film Festival this evening. She and boyfriend Michael Sheen were also together this morning at the Midnight in Paris photocall, though they seemed to show even more PDA at tonight's event — Michael sweetly helped with her dress as she ascended the stairs, and they huddled close while posing alongside costars Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody, and the French actress Lea Seydoux. Rachel and Michael made the trip to France together in order to promote the comedy after a stay in LA doing press and hanging out with his 12-year-old daughter, Lily.
In recent years, Woody Allen's films have gotten to be a bit formulaic: he compiles an impeccable cast and drops them in an iconic city, then lets the characters' story lines intersect with each other. Sometimes the formula works (as in Vicky Cristina Barcelona), but other times we're not so lucky (as in You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger). After watching the trailer for his newest film, it's hard to predict where Midnight in Paris will fall on the spectrum.
The movie centers on Owen Wilson and Rachel McAdams as an engaged couple visiting Paris. They start to grow apart when McAdams's character takes a liking to a stuffy American intellectual (Michael Sheen) that her fiancé doesn't quite approve of. Meanwhile, Wilson's character starts seeing his own side to the City of Love, but it's not clear what he's really doing on his late-night walks. There's no question that Wilson and McAdams have charm to spare, and Paris is the perfect backdrop for any film, but the trailer boasts only a few chuckles (and we barely glimpse the rest of the cast, which includes Marion Cotillard, Adrien Brody, and Kathy Bates). The good news is that we won't have to wait long to find out more about the movie, as it's set to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May. Watch the preview for yourself when you read more
Colin Firth, Helena Bonham Carter and Tom Hooper cuddled up at the Weinsteins' Montblanc Cocktail Party at Soho House in West Hollywood last night. The King's Speech trio are hoping for success at today's Oscars, following their slew of BAFTAs. Colin arrived in LA last week with his wife Livia, who revealed to FabUK what she's wearing to the Oscars. They attended Tom Ford's store opening Thursday alongside Rachel Zoe and Alexander Skarsgard, who were also at last night's party. Other stars included Busy Philipps, Renee Zellweger, Jessica Szohr, Jennifer Lopez, and Marc Anthony. Emma Stone and Taylor Swift smiled together, and Chord Overstreeet and Dianna Agron brought Glee to the party. Kate Beckinsale was back to her usual hair colour after her blonde moment, while Gerard Butler hung with Adrien Brody again just like at the Dior dinner. Gorgeous guys like Ryan Phillippe, Stephen Moyer, and Chace Crawford posed for pictures too. The Sugar US team will be LIVE from the red carpet in just a few hours starting at 3:30 PST/6:30 EST, so watch on PopSugar and follow on Twitter for breaking news and photos.
